The Digital Enterprise Show 2018 (DES) taking place May 22-24 in Madrid, will have forums dedicated to the IoT, featuring opportunities for startups and challenges for large organizations.
Technologies that are transforming the social and business realities will be on display during the DES Tech Series program, which include spaces for analysis on technologies as the Internet of Things, Cloud, Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, and Cybersecurity.
Within the framework of these forums, the IoT Tech Series is dedicated to understanding the challenges and opportunities posed by the Internet of Things.
It will tackle issues such as new business routes that arise around the collection and management of data, and the security implications for building trusting environments that help IoT implementation; until it integrates with other technologies such as artificial intelligence and robotics to enhance the transformation of the entire organization.
“Connecting devices and machinery to obtain relevant data in real time is undoubtedly an imperative of the digital economy for companies when it comes to developing their business in a conscious way,” said Lluís Altés, Managing Director of DES 2018.
“The potential of the IoT as a source of information reaches a great diversity of industries from health to urban mobility, for example, which in turn, affects other areas of our life such as caring for the environment, or the creation of services that improve our social well-being,” he added.
IoT Tech Series at DES Madrid 2018
DES 2018 aims to show how the development of IoT technology solutions has a direct impact on today’s society while promoting innovations that improve social integration and equality.
Manel Alcaide, entrepreneur and Founder of Visualfy, a technology company at the service of people with hearing loss that develops solutions that collect sound information from the environment and mobile devices to adapt it with visual signals and sensory, will be presenting.

His startup has made developments in the Deaf Smart Space with a sensor that listens permanently in the user’s home and learns from its daily sound activity. It is able to send a notification to a telephone when the doorbell rings, the washing machine is over or the baby is crying. It is a Spanish startup that has obtained more than €2 million of investment.
Extreme IoT Applications
Ferrán Latorre is a mountaineer and Spanish traveler. In 2017 he became the sixth Spanish mountaineer to ascend the 14×8000 — the 14 highest mountains on earth that exceed 8,000 meters in altitude — a feat achieved until that time by only 38 people.
DES 2018 will connect with Latorre live as he continues his adventure up the mountain to talk about how data and the IoT are changing the world of sport.
Thanks to the technological solutions developed by Seidor and SAP, Latorre’s followers will able to follow his attempts to reach the top.
The use of IoT devices allows the monitoring of vital signs and weather conditions while establishing a satellite communications system and even sharing the mountaineers’ emotional states and geopositioning in real time.
IoT Interconnectivity and Security
Mercedes Crego, Head of Open Innovation at Philips Lighting, will also present on the interconnectivity solutions applied to the lighting, sensorization and devices sector.
From a more technical point of view, security will also have a great role within this IoT forum. In 2017 attacks on IoT devices soared by 280%.
As the IoT becomes more widespread and more interconnected devices appear, the complexity of managing the environment continues to grow.
In this line, Magnus Melander, CEO of IoT Wbird, will try to answer the question of whether the IoT security issues can be solved, and he will establish the ideal roadmap that each IoT provider, developer and manufacturer, must address to build a trust market.
Melander argues that security awareness is not yet enough, and that the urgency to develop a solid security base and a culture of analysis to deal with an increasingly interconnected world must prevail.
Manuel Muñiz, CEO of MIOTI, will defend hyperconnectivity through the Internet of Things, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence at DES Madrid.
He will analyze the potential of automated operational processes to drive business innovation with a competitive model, where as the technology advances, the possibilities of achieving total automation increase. It will reveal which are the inflection points and which are the forces that act as triggers of automation and value the potential of AI and advanced robotics.
IoT Industry Transformation and Disruption
Anne Høyer, IoT Director at SAP and one of the 30 best inspiring women of 2017, will share with the attendees the keys to the success of an IoT strategy and help understand the real impact that this technology is taking in the industry.
And last but not least, Bay McLaughlin, entrepreneur and investor with shares in 38 companies from 20 different countries, will be presenting “Why Connecting The World Will Change Everything.”
McLaughlin will be highlighting the role that the IoT plays in the activation of technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Blockchain, and Cryptocurrencies.
He will also review the IoT applications that are changing our lives today.
The DES 2018 IoT Tech Series will analyze the business opportunities that arise around this disruptive technology and its combination with others such as artificial intelligence, robotics, blockchain, and cybersecurity.
DES Madrid 2018 Highlights
More than 450 international speakers will present across 200 conferences over the course of three days in May. The largest world conference on digital transformation will once again bring together the knowledge of international speakers on Digital Leadership, Cloud, IoT, Cybersecurity, Blockchain or Artificial Intelligence that will add more than 120 hours of lectures.
The Digital Enterprise Show taking place in Madrid May 22-24 will have a political debate focused around digital transformation in AI, cybersecurity, and GDPR.
