In order to connect startups working in sports and health technology, Smash Iberia will bring representatives from some 30 Finnish startups to the Impact Hub in Madrid in mid-October.
Taking place at Smash Iberia in Madrid will be a pitching contest, speed dating, and 1-1 meetings between startups, investors, and government representatives from both nations from October 10-11.
Born in Finland in 2016, Smash now comes to Iberia for the first time. The first international Smash event, Smash London, took place in May in the UK and it exceeded expectations. After the success in the UK, Smash now looks to conquer the Iberian peninsula.
Smash is aimed at all sports, exercise and technology startups and growth companies. It offers a framework to raise awareness, network, develop partnerships and launch new products.
Keynote speakers at the Impact Hub in Madrid will include representatives from the Spanish government, and it will include a panel on Financing Systems in Spain, with panelists Cecelia Hernandez, Head of the Department Health, Bioeconomy, Climate and Natural Resources at CDTI; Maria Jesus Fernandez, Director of Finance and Investor Relations at ICEX-Invest in Spain’s Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness; along with a representative from Canaan Research and Investment.
Smash Iberia is an event directed at companies in the field of health and sports technology with the goal of building a bridge between the healthcare and well-being sectors of Finland and Iberia.
Its aim is to build a bigger shared ecosystem between the two regions and increase cooperation where Finnish entrepreneurs can meet with local Spanish players including government representatives and local companies to the wider startup scene.
The event in Madrid will immediately follow Smash Iberia in Lisbon, Portugal, which takes place from October 9-10, with a similar agenda.
Smash Iberia will bring around 30 Finnish startups and companies to the Iberian peninsula to meet with the health and sports technology sectors of Portugal and Spain. From Iberia both Portugal’s and Spain’s representants from public administration, the sports and health companies, and the financial sector will attend the event. The event is meant for both companies seeking for funding as well as those looking for partners or clients.
Smash rocked the sports world for the first time on November 29, 2016 at Kattilahalli in Suvilahti, Helsinki. Altogether, 400 participants from 10 different countries participated the event.
The second Smash event was held on November 28–29, 2017 in Helsinki. The Smash participants were represented by 79 startups, 30 investors, and different actors from sports and health genres. Altogether, over 500 participants representing 46 nationalities participated to the two-day event.
Impact Hub Madrid is a network of coworking spaces with a community of professionals focused on innovation, impact and entrepreneurship. It offers services and content designed to inspire, connect and promote projects with purpose.
