Mouse4all takes home the G5 Innova grand prize for its technology for social good, which allows people with disabilities to access touchscreens without having to physically touch the screen.
Mouse4all was recognized as the best startup at G5 Innova, an award with a cash prize of €6,000 that goes to the most innovative startup for social good in Spain.
For people with severe physical disabilities such as cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis, ALS, or neuromuscular disease, accessing touchscreens can be a frustating challenge, if not impossible.
Mouse4all improves the quality of life of the persons who use it, increasing their autonomy, privacy and personal development.
Watching our happy users playing with our inventions is what we like most […] They are our greatest motivation to move forward!
It is an assistive product that allows everyone to use an Android tablet or smartphone entirely, without touching the screen. It enables access to the Internet, social networks, games or any other app.
This in turn improves users’ self-esteem and self-confidence while empowering them to make their own decisions and participate in society.
Mouse4all is composed of an Android app and a connection box. It is very easy to install. You can use it with one or two switches, a trackball or a joystick.
Mouse4all was founded in Madrid in 2015 by two engineers, José Ángel Jiménez and Javier Montaner. The idea arose when they saw that the advancement of technology could leave out people with diseases.
“We are engineers and we like to apply technology to solve relevant problems. We enjoy creating hardware (the Mouse4all box) and software (the Android app), but watching our happy users playing with our inventions is what we like most: their joyful faces when they choose the video they want to watch, or when they receive and read in their privacy a WhatsApp message, or when they shoot a selfie all by themselves! They are our greatest motivation to move forward,” explain the founders.
The G5 Innova Award, a benchmark in social entrepreneurship in Spain, aims to promote the development of innovative projects in the social field.
The prize, to which this year 100 social projects were submitted, awarded €6,000 for the winning project and two prizes of €500 for the finalists.
