Spain’s technology sector has long been recognized for its engineering talent. Still, in recent years it has also begun producing founders with global ambitions in artificial intelligence, robotics, and other deep-tech fields.
While the country’s ecosystem remains smaller than those of the United States or the United Kingdom, Spanish startups are increasingly appearing in international investment and research conversations. The latest example is Álex Ruiz, founder and CEO of TurbineH, who has been selected by Paradigm to take part in Frontiers 2026, a meeting organized by the U.S. investment fund that will be held October 12–14 in San Francisco.
The event will bring together 100 technology profiles from around the world who are working in fields with high disruptive potential. For Ruiz, the selection places TurbineH inside Silicon Valley for three days, alongside developers, researchers and entrepreneurs working on emerging technologies.
Frontiers 2026 will be held at Fort Mason and will combine expert sessions, hands-on work and a hackathon where participants can develop and present new projects. It is aimed especially at technical profiles exploring new architectures and technologies in AI models.

“For TurbineH, this is an extraordinary opportunity,” Ruiz said. “We are building from Spain with the ambition to participate in the next generation of artificial intelligence, and spending three days in San Francisco alongside people who are also exploring what comes next will allow us to test our vision, learn and open relationships in the world’s leading technology ecosystem.”
Ruiz, who was born in Marbella, plans to remain in San Francisco for a month after the event. “I am going to structure the relationships that will help us position ourselves as one of the leading AI + robotics companies in Europe,” he said.
Paradigm’s growing focus on AI and robotics
The selection comes as Paradigm expands its investment strategy. Founded in 2018 by Matt Huang, a former Sequoia Capital partner, and Fred Ehrsam, co-founder of Coinbase, the fund has become a major international investor in emerging technologies. In July 2026, Paradigm closed a new $1.2 billion fund and broadened its focus to include artificial intelligence, robotics and other disruptive technologies—areas that overlap with TurbineH’s work.
TurbineH’s bet on specialized AI
At Frontiers 2026, Ruiz will present and test TurbineH’s technological vision. The company is researching an architecture based on specialized micromodels that can work in a coordinated way, rather than relying permanently on large generalist models. The goal is to move toward more efficient, adaptable and sovereign AI systems.
That research runs alongside the development of BrainOS, TurbineH’s technology conceived as a digital twin of an organization’s knowledge. The system centralizes information that a company keeps across documents, tools and platforms so that its professionals can work with that knowledge and build the software, processes and solutions they need.
TurbineH’s vision is that this digital twin could eventually become the connection point between an organization’s knowledge and new generations of agents, software and robotic systems, allowing those technologies to work on each company’s own knowledge.
“Paradigm is now focusing precisely on AI, robotics and frontier technologies, areas very close to the vision we are building at TurbineH,” Ruiz added. “For us, being there is not only about presenting what we do, but about being part of the conversations and relationships that can define the next stage of this technology.”
The company’s participation is expected to strengthen its international projection, build relationships with technical profiles and investors in the San Francisco ecosystem, and help it contrast its technological roadmap as it advances in BrainOS and research lines on micromodel specialization, orchestration and federated learning.
Ruiz previously launched Checktobuild from the United States in 2020, applying AI to automate quality control in construction. Based in Miami, the startup gained clients in countries across three continents and raised more than $1.5 million from investors.
