Madrid’s Eatable Adventures accelerator launches Food Business Angels, the first gastropreneur investor network for entrepreneurs working in gastronomy.
For gastropreneurs — those who develop gastronomic entrepreneurship — Food Business Angels is the first network of private investors specializing in the food and beverage industry.
“Only 2.3% of total investments in startups correspond to the food and beverage sector,” said Eatable Adventures Founder and CEO José Luis Cabañero at the I Foro de Inversión en Gastronomía in Madrid on Monday.
He also shared his vision on the great investment opportunity that exists in Spain and highlighted the need to carry out these types of meetings in “a country where gastronomy represents 25% of GDP.”
Food Business Angels will be the new investment arm of Eatable Adventures’ Gastroemprededores [Gastropreneurs] incubator and accelerator.
The accelerator’s mission is to build the gastronomic businesses of the future.
Through Gastroemprendedores, Eatable Adventures organizes events showcasing the latest trends and market opportunities, presents success stories from consolidated companies, and connects startups and future entrepreneurs with business angels and investors.
Gastroemprendedores supports young teams with ambitious goals that are committed to turning their projects into great companies through four main areas:
- Incubation and acceleration
- Periodic events
- Disseminating business content
- Industry leader support
Five startups were selected to take place in last year’s accelerator with the theme “recipe of the future.”
- Batavia – an alternative to fast food in meeting consumer demands of fresh, healthy ingredients.
- Prezo – a platform solving one of the biggest limitations that exist in the world of Spanish catering.
- Taco Dorado – an innovative restaurant concept that bases its gastronomic offering on authentic Mexican food.
- Two Many Chefs – offers gastronomic consulting and auditing services for catering businesses and provides the customized integral solution that each project needs.
- Valquieta – proposes outsourcing restaurant service in hotels and tourist apartments.
“Today we have seen the result of the intense acceleration work that we have taken together with the startups. What 9 months ago was an idea, today is a reality: solid and invertible companies with great future prospects,” said Itziar Ortega, Acceleration and Incubation Program Director at Gastroemprendedores at the I Foro de Inversión en Gastronomía.
