Orizont is looking for up to eight startups in the AgriFood sector for its fourth accelerator program, and will provide support and assisstance in improving their value-chain.
The AgriFood accelerator, part of the Development Society of Navarra (SODENA), is committed to its vision in Spain, and has just announced the fourth edition of its accelerator.
Orizont’s past accelerators have produced microwave weed-killers, a sustainable system of raising livestock, and a self-production system for food at home.
Orizont’s objective is to strengthen the AgriFood sector in all aspects, so it wants to attract projects that will innovate and expand on existing formulas within the sector, as well as advance technologies that contribute to the productivity and competitiveness of the industry.
AgriFood startups that wish to apply for the accelerator can apply here until April 19.
In June the finalists will be chosen. The six-month program will include an economic endowment of up to 110,000 euros to each participant, as well as access to an extensive network of specialized mentors in the sector, collaborating companies, research centers, and universities, among other boons for the finalists.
After the resounding success of the last three editions, there are already over 500 startups interested. The last three editions have seen 18 projects accelerated, with 70% of those projects having their products on sale already; half of them have obtained new investors and financing, according to El Referente.
The finalists will be chosen in June by a jury of experts from the Spanish Federation of Food and Beverage Industries (FIAB), National Center for Technology and Food Safety (CNTA) ), IESE Business School, Coca-Cola, General Mills, Mahou-San Miguel, Viscofan, Campus Iberus, Eroski and Ebro Foods, as well as the Government of Navarra and Sodena itself.
Sodena is the financial instrument of the Government of Navarra used for the development of business in the autonomous community. It contributes to the balanced development and sustainability of the business ecosystem of Navarra by activily and significantly contributing to different projects in the Spanish region. Orizont is the AgriFood development subsection of Sodena.
