What is South Summit Ecosystem Builders and how is going to boost Industry 4.0 in Bilbao?

South Summit, powered by IE University and Bizkaia Provincial Council (Biscay Startup Bay) will hold the first edition of Ecosystem Builders, the startup event that is looking to showcase the skills and opportunities in Bizkaia, as well as establish relationships with different regional stakeholders and with the rest of the world. Also, the point of the event is to discuss the opportunities and challenges within the entrepreneurial ecosystem, specifically in the 4.0, mobility, and energy transition industries.

The event will be held between the 10th and 11th of November in Bilbao in Bizkaia’s international entrepreneurship center, BAT. Ecosystem Builders will have 26 expert panelists from the global and industrial entrepreneurial ecosystem, some of them are Nina Göntgen-Voss, Sustainability Director at Forto; Alejandro Carbonell, CEO at Green Urban Data; and Nityen Lal, Managing Director at Icos Capital.

Apart from high-quality networking and learning, 23 selected startups will pitch their ideas in front of industry-related investors and corporations. These 23 startups were chosen from the 900 participants, where 70% were international, from Brazil, USA, India, Nigeria, Turkey, Russia, the UK, Israel, and Italy. The national startups participating were mainly from Catalonia (30%), Basque Country, and Madrid (both with 20% subscriptions).

The 23 startups were selected based on the following criteria: innovation, feasibility, scalability, sustainability, or team, as well as potential interest from investors. The winner will be able to enter directly into the South Summit Madrid 2023 final. These are the 23 selected startups that will participate in the Ecosystem Builders First Edition:

  • Autosys, an Indian startup that developed the Quad IoT, the universal device for heavy machinery that can track data in real-time, and transmit them in a cloud-based platform for data analysis and automation.
  • Cyber 2.0, an Israeli defense system against cyberattacks within the company networks. The solution isolates the attack from the infected computer, blocking the spread and preventing information sharing outside the organization.
  • EcoWave Power, an Israeli startup focused on developing a tech solution for clean electricity generation with sea waves, through floats, which are set to the marine structures such as sea walls, piers, and jetties
  • Empower Eco,  a Norwegian tracking platform that digitizes any waste or materials, with the objective of mapping the plastics path from the pickup until new products.
  • ENWIZE, an Israeli startup that develops the WIZRD software, that uses AR and VR to guide technical teams to ensure proper and efficient keeping services, avoiding mistakes due to lack of experience.
  • Fox IoT, a Brazilian startup that developed a device attached to electrical transformers for collecting data and sending them to the cloud, showcasing the energy quality.
  • H2 Vector, an Asturian startup that develops products and solutions to maximize the use of renewable energies, using hydrogen as an enabler component.
  • Hey Charge, a German platform focused on low-cost electric car recharge, especially for apartments, offices, hotels, and vacation rentals. Their tech removes the need for an internet-connected infrastructure.
  • Katakem, an Italian startup that offers the first chemical intelligent reactor to accelerate new molecules. Their robot OnePot automates the chemical workers’ jobs so experiments are 100% replicable.
  • Novus Guard, this UK startup delivers protection to diverse field workers, such as industrial equipment maintenance. It has been designed to alleviate risks, prevent loss, and burglaries
  • Obwstreetstyle, a french intelligent and autonomous parking stage, designed for urban mobility, but adaptable to any type. Its autonomous version doesn’t require any civil work, which eases the installation.
  • Phelas, a German large-scale electric storage system based on an air liquefaction patent process. This startup uses air and gravel as principal storage mediums due to their universality and their non-toxic component.
  • Preflet, this Portuguese startup reduces the carbon footprint from energetic assets from public and private entities. Their SaaS platform processes data through a mobile app, an API IoT, and AI, which guarantee efficiency.
  • Solarmente, this Catalan startup has as objective to democratize residential solar energy easing the process for the medium owner, through hardware, installation, guarantees, financing, safety, and technical service in a subscription model.
  • Solarstone, this Estonian startup creates solar panels attached to the building that mixes well with its façade to benefit from the solar energy. Solarston is a substitute for the common tiles with their innovative solar modules.
  • Sunalizer, created in Valencia, this solar energy Marketplace allows customers to buy instant installation services and get the best one according to each customer’s needs.
  • Terafence, this Israeli startup solution consists in keeping the data flow in IoT devices while isolating them in a material way to avoid cyber threats.
  • Trella, this Egyptian platform connects commercial loaders with the carriers to create transparency, and boost efficiency and reliability in the supply chain. This improves the transportation routes and creates an effective shipment cluster.
  • Uali, this British startup merges robotics, IoT, and AI to anticipate the future, helping energy startups protect their most valuable assets while generating a positive impact on the environment.
  • UniSCool, a Lleirdan innovative cooling system based on auto-adaptive heating sink that removes efficiently and selectively the heat, regardless of terminal charge setting
  • Vsight, is a Lithuanian tech supplier that developed collaboration and remote assistant platform for AR companies and manufacturers. The platform allows companies to expand their experience and technical knowledge.
  • Wegaw, is a Swiss startup that helps optimize clean energy production through satellite data, helping them in their renewable energy imbalance and boosting efficiency as well as decreasing their fossil fuels dependency.
