Seville to host a new edition of Techstars Startup Weekend

Hackathon-style events have been driving the development of tech for years now, and for good reason. Within the entrepreneurial world, Techstars Startup Weekend in particular has established itself as a global center for startup creation.

Under the organization, more than 7,000 events have been held in over 150 countries around the world. In Spain, Seville leads the way with the highest number of events.

The city will soon see the return of Techstars Startup Weekend, with the intense event once again positioning itself as a meeting point for those who want to transform their creativity into action.

This year, there is an extra ingredient: cybersecurity.

From June 21 to 23, the city will host the 29th edition of Techstars Startup Weekend Sevilla at Fundación Valentín de Madariaga y Oya, an emblematic space that symbolizes Seville’s commitment to talent and innovation. The event is organized by SevillaUP, a non-profit committed to advancing Seville’s entrepreneurial and technological ecosystem.

For many, the format of this month’s event is quite familiar. It is a 54-hour entrepreneurial marathon that includes practical training, intensive mentoring, and collaborative work to turn ideas into viable solutions. No experience or project is necessary. All one needs is curiosity, a desire to learn, and the desire to contribute something to the world.

During the weekend, participants form multidisciplinary teams, identify real problems, design solutions, validate market hypotheses, and present their progress to a jury of experts. All of this is accompanied by mentors with experience in technology, design, strategy, and digital business.

More than a competition, the event becomes a true school of entrepreneurship: effective communication, agile validation, strategic thinking, and collaboration under pressure are just some of the skills-sets that emerge.

Cybersecurity, a key focus for today’s entrepreneurs

One of the most relevant new features of this edition is its focus on cybersecurity, promoted by the National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE), an entity under the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Administration, through the Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure, and in collaboration with the Spanish education and entrepreneurship innovation consultancy Sherpa Tribe. All this is part of a strategy to strengthen the national ecosystem.

This focus on innovation not only seeks to inspire the creation of startups in the field of digital security, but also to integrate cybersecurity as an essential component from the earliest stages of any business idea.

In a world where technology is present in every aspect of our lives, learning how to protect it is a competitive advantage. And those participating in this event are well aware of this.

In addition to technical learning, Startup Weekend Seville becomes an unparalleled networking opportunity. Spending so many hours with people from different backgrounds creates important bonds that can lead to future partnerships, projects and friendships.

While contributing to the development of the local ecosystem, the event is an invitation to step out of one’s comfort zone, test ideas, develop talents, learn even faster, and grow.
