The European innovation ecosystem has its eyes on Lisbon for the upcoming days, and Spain is no exception. A big Spanish group of entrepreneurs and investors are heading to neighboring Portugal to showcase its strength and explore potential opportunities in Web Summit, one of the most recognized international innovation events in Europe.
Part of this group involves the Community of Madrid, which continues its commitment to innovation and entrepreneurship to strengthen and boost its economy. The regional office for attracting foreign investment, Invest In Madrid, part of the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Employment, will be present next week at the Web Summit in Lisbon, a congress that brings together investors and startups from all over Europe, with the aim of attracting essential investments to the Spanish capital.
Within the framework of the Web Summit, Invest In Madrid has scheduled the workshop “Madrid Investor Talks: a hub for innovation and investment”. This is a round table that will bring together, on November 3, the main investors and startups of the innovative ecosystem of Madrid with the aim of explaining the facilities offered by the Community to promote and accelerate a startup.
This event will open a debate on the investment opportunities offered by the region of Madrid, the possibilities that each of them has found with their projects to develop them in the Community of Madrid, as well as the opportunities offered by the region to support innovative projects and the investment possibilities for them. Not in vain, Madrid was in 2021 the main recipient region of investment aimed at startups. A total of €2,489 million from public and private funds were invested last year to light up and develop innovative startup projects.
José del Barrio, Founder and Managing Partner of Samaipata; Juan López, Partner of Kibo Ventures; Markus Ament; Operating Partner of Samaipata; Miguel Fernández, CEO and co-Founder of Capchase, and Paloma Martín, CEO and co-Founder of Hoop Carpool, will be the protagonists of this conference to be held on November 3 at Web Summit Lisbon.
Rodrigo de la Mota, CEO of Invest In Madrid, says: “This meeting represents a new opportunity at the European level to show the capacity that the Community of Madrid has to offer a consolidated innovative and investor ecosystem. Madrid has established itself as the technology hub of Southern Europe, and we are already the fourth largest startup ecosystem in Europe”
De la Mota adds that “the investors and entrepreneurs who will accompany us in this workshop are a clear example of our region’s infrastructure to support innovative projects”. The CEO of Invest In Madrid highlights the dynamizing character that this type of companies offer to the Madrid economy, as they contribute to generating highly skilled employment: in 2021 alone, 40,000 new jobs were created in this environment in the Community of Madrid. And now the region is going for more.
