Unbeknownst to some, since 2010 the tech industry in Jamaica has grown by leaps and bounds.
In part, this has been a result of global demand for tech talent intensifying, with the country emerging as a go-to destination.
This growth can also be credited to the country’s government and its investments. Jamaica earlier allocated $1.1 billion for the Boosting Innovation, Growth and Entrepreneurship Ecosystems (BIGEE) initiative, which is looking to achieve sustainable growth amongst smaller businesses and startups.
Organizations have also been core to furthering the local tech ecosystem, including the Amber/HEART NSTA Coding Academy, as well as Caribbean’s premier technology conference TBR, which was founded by Kirk Anthony Hamilton and Kyle Mahoney.
The conference has played an important role in shining a spotlight on the impressive innovation in Jamaica, and just finished its most recent conference, bringing together some of the world’s largest enterprises, including Google and Massy Group, along with Ministers in the country and Editors such as Fast Company’s Lydia Dishman.
Attendees at the conference participated in interactive workshops, listened to discussions covering topics such as AI, digital transformation, and sustainable tech solutions, and took advantage of networking opportunities.
Speakers included Microsoft’s Director of Apps, Innovation, Data, and AI Raamel Mitchell; PwC Partner Anthony Zamore, Google Senior Director of Product Management Maria Fernandez Guajardo; and Google’s Strategy and Operations Director of Emerging Markets Uche Adegbite, among others.
TBR events offer an important space for leaders in technology, innovation, and investment, with its events uniting world-class speakers and thought leaders in the Caribbean.
