Over 250 delegates gathered today in Athens, Greece for the first day of Horasis India Meeting to debate key global issues in sustainability, international relations and economic development.

The Horasis meeting opened up with the Hellenic-Indian Chamber of Commerce & Economy and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), which welcomed participants to celebrate the 2024 Horasis India Meeting. Speakers included Vinod Kumar Wuthoo, President, India SME Forum; Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), India; Frank-Jürgen Richter, Chairman, Horasis, Switzerland; and Angelos Tsavdaris, President, Hellenic – Indian Chamber of Commerce and Economy, Greece.

Discussions followed at the conference to discussing the long bi-lateral journey, and opportunities here. India and Greece Greek merchants created trading houses in Bengal from the 18th century and modern diplomatic relations began following India’s independence. Greece exports to India are increasing, yet there is a net deficit with India increasing its Greek trade by 68% in 2020. Presently, there is growing emphasis on joint investments into shipping, high tech and services. Asked speakers on the panel, “each nation has much to offer the other – how might their cooperation evolve?”

Later in the meeting, said Kostas Skrekas, Greece’s Minister of Development in a written statement, “Greece and India are two democratic countries, the oldest and the largest. The responsibility for decision-making and response belongs to democracy.”

“Because democracy is the only system that can guarantee freedom, respect for individual and collective rights, solidarity and the continuous pursuit of prosperity and progress”, added the Minister.

Horasis is hosting the 2024 Horasis India Meeting in Athens, Greece over 15-16 September. The meeting offers an important platform for senior business leaders from India, Greece and the world to explore and foster cooperation, impact investing, and sustainable growth.

Of particular interest is the facilitation of meetings with Indian innovators and entrepreneurs to explore beneficial new ventures, using Athens as hub to invest in Greece and Europe. The 2024 Horasis India Meeting is co-hosted by the Hellenic-Indian Chamber of Commerce and Economy drawing together senior members of the Horasis Visions Community.
